Chaos at Howe Community Park Leaves Multiple Gunshot Victims in Arden-Arcade Sacramento

Law enforcement in Sacramento are probing a violent incident that took place Saturday night April 18 at the Howe Community Park area more info at the moment officers were breaking up an unlawful assembly of multiple hundreds of people.

Background

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies initially responded to the Arden-Arcade park at approximately 6:30 in the evening after obtaining information of individuals who may have had concealed firearms. After that, a follow-up call was made describing a reported physical confrontation occurring inside the park.

An overhead unit flew over the park but reported no active disturbance. Regardless, it was apparent that hundreds of people had congregated at Howe Park without authorization.

The Shooting Itself

Responding units started clearing the unauthorized gathering by forming a perimeter and issuing commands over loudspeakers telling those gathered to disperse at once. Around 15 minutes were given for the gathering to break up.

At the height of the dispersal effort that an estimated 20 to 25 shots rang out. The sudden gunfire triggered a stampede. Law enforcement wasted no time in identifying shooting victims.

The Shooting Victims

By the time the scene was secured, four shooting victims were discovered with shooting injuries. All four — a group of one female and three male victims each apparently in their early to late twenties — were rushed to nearby hospitals. Doctors and nurses indicated that two were treated for serious injuries, one sustained moderate wounds, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, all four were expected to survive.

Sacramento Metro Fire assisted at the location and helped triage the injured at the scene.

What Investigators Found

The center of the incident was determined to have been concentrated adjacent to the Cottage Way side of the park near the Home Depot located at the 2200 Howe Avenue block. CSI personnel found further ballistic evidence in the form of shell casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Ballistic damage were discovered in the wrought iron fence alongside the nearby Home Depot. These findings suggested that at least one shooter had been firing southward from Cottage Way in the direction of the Home Depot building and parking lot. The Home Depot was put under lockdown for a period of time. Forensic investigators and law enforcement detectives remained on scene through the early morning hours.

Suspect Information

Intelligence received over police scanner frequencies showed that a Kia vehicle was pulled over in the Solano County area. Four detainees were detained. Sheriff's units were en route to collect those detained to bring the suspects back for investigation. Video that was reviewed confirmed that two separate shooters participated in the incident.
